A plug valve primarily consists of a plug (a stopper with a bore) and a fixed valve body. By rotating the plug 90 degrees, the port in the plug aligns with or separates from the port in the valve body, thereby opening or closing the valve. The plug can be either cylindrical or conical in shape, and its internal passage may be rectangular or trapezoidal.
